Man, that's incredible erosion. Yours truly usedta ride his bicycle around the outer end of the pier casino at low tide. What a sad example of mans inability to understand the beach environment. Too many stabilized inlets, not enough setback, unfortunately no cure. What a wonderful beach it used to be...goodbye old friend.

Re: Wilma'a Aftermath - Daytona WhatBeach

Hi billinstuart,
I, too, think that it is so sad. I've been going to Daytona Beach since 1970. It sure has gone to seed. I used to ride my Honda MiniTrail 70 (remember those?) on the beach. On the weekends my buddies & I would drive "high speed donuts" in an old 63 Ford Falcon station wagon until the oil light would come on or we would upchuck the cheap beer we drank (whichever came first!!). Ah, those were the days.

HH & glad to see you weathered the storm,

Stirling,
Mine was a 67 Mercury Caliente. I remember those fun times all to well...okay, I don't remember all of them some are lost in a funky haze. But donuts at Daytona was one of my last big weekends before I went to Nam.

Come On Down. The wind is backing off some and it's possible to do some detecting till the sand comes back onto the beach and covers everything with three more feet of sand. Finding some good stuff too. Yesterday I had a security guard try to tell me I couldn't detect here but I told him to call the police which naturally never arrived.

Yr. obd. srvnt. learned to drive on the beach in a Simca Aronde with 4 on the column. Personally, I would NEVER be caught dead doing donuts on the beach at night (with the headlights on.....)

I made a few trips down the beach in my brand new white '65 VW Bug. The salt spray turned it beige! It took 3 days and lots of rubbing compound to get it back to white! Almost got arrested at the Daytona 500 in '66, but that's another story. Monty
