Service report: Whites vs Minelab

I sent my Minelab Excalibur in for service to the Minelab repair center on July 24, and according to Minelab and UPS I should be getting it back today, September 2.

That's a six week turn-around.

I sent my White's Beachhunter 300 in for service to Whites on August 21, and got it back today.

That's less than two weeks turn-around, and no charge for the repairs.

I tested the Whites Beachhunter and they fixed the problem with the cable, replaced the headset foam, and included a few coins pasted on the servicing form (which I used for testing).

I'm very impressed with the quality of service and quick turn-around from Whites.

I haven't yet received the Minelab Excalibur back yet (hopefully it will get here today), and hopefully they will have fixed the problem.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

UPS just brought the repaired excalibur.

The Service invoice from Minelab had these notes:

"Could not duplicate problem. Replaced PCB & Coil to prevent recall."

The parts list show coil, pcb,grommet, strain relief as being used in the repair.

No charge.

So I guess its basically a new detector now.

I'll take it out on the beach later this week to see if the problems of erratic tones and continued falsing have been corrected.

Sent my sovereign in on the 17th.

Minelab called on the 21st.
told me 14 days to 3 weeks
(I Think the 3 weeks
is to include Shipment back
the way she talked.)
friday will be 14 days
not counting the 21st.

havn't heard anything else yet.

Turn around on my Excal I sent in a month or so ago was just a couple days over 3 weeks including shipping there and back. Coil was cracked, I sent in a spare 10 inch coil with it that I had from one of my Sovereign GTs that I had never used.

My Excal was not under any kind of warranty, bill was just a few pennys over $60 for installing the new coil and the return shipping. Charged me for 1 hr labor, which is the minimum charge.......

Company I work for the minimum first hour charge is $125 so I feel they were very fair.....
