    Yesterdays find after the storm

I found this deep down on the beach after the storms subsided yesterday. It's a Silver Threepence of King George V 1926. until I get a beach machine, i'm using my Whites XLT Spectrum with a U.K ring/jewellery programme. The beach was Slapton Sands on the South Devon coast. ( Just too cold to enter the water!!)

Nice coin. You will enjoy hunting more when you get a beach machine.
An undisciplined hunter with a highly capable machine will miss many more targets than a disciplined hunter with a limited machine.

Yes you're right. I'm after one at the moment, but the Whites Pi and PRO versions are like gold dust over here. I'll just have to wait until one comes available.
It's sad that the coin came off Slapton Sands beach where some US soldiers died rehearsing for the D-Day invasion around May 1944. Around 700 were lost out at sea close to the beach when the boats carrying them were attacked by German E boats. However, this is another story that would take up a lot more space on this forum.

Nice coin! Be like me and wait for a good beach machine to become available on here, i'm an Aussie and bought one from a guy here in the US, very happy and have found lots of treasure with it at a reasonable price, keep an eye on the for sale ads, good luck!

I am familiar with that event Dogman. Many people have never heard of it but I am a history buff and retired U.S. Army Paratrooper. If I remember right, it was kept quiet for a long while due to the fact that it was a practice for the invasion and for some reason, the secrecy lasted for well into the end and after the war.

Take Care and good luck finding your water detector.

Re: Yesterdays find after the storm

That's right Dachief. The book is called The Forgotten Dead by Ken Small. Basically the aurthors friend, a local fisherman snagged his net on something which revealled a Sherman Tank. The author revealled a U.S government coverup as it would of been bad for morale and a boost for the Germans to know over 700 lives were lost rehearsing for the D-Day landings. His research took years to complete, but the president at the time ( Reagan) wrote him a personal letter of thanks for his work and every year a memorial service is held by the tank in memory of those who lost their lives in the incident.
The rehearsals were so secret, that all the villages for miles around were evacuated with service personell billeted in their homes. Also, some were killed on the beach during other exercises, as live ammo was used.
The aurthor prior to the tank being found, used to beachcomb along the same beach and find U.S class rings, coins, ammo etc which also roused his interest in why they were on the beach. He then purchased a detector (this was the early 70's) and went on to find hammered gold and silver coins 400-500 years old.

A shop up north should hopefully have a PI PRO in next week, as someone is trading up to the Duel Field. I was watching a series on lifeguards on Bondi. Very interesting to see the hoards of people on the beach and in the water on a daily basis. Can it be detected? if so, there must be coins and jewelery in abundance, especially from the amount of drunk people on the beach and water. lol
