Re: Headphones...opinions please.
Hi Ralph, Like the others I like Black Widows, Gray Ghosts, Killr Bees and Jolly Roger's aren't bad. These are premium phones that fit around the ear and not on them so they are very comforable and adjustable for sound volume and quality.
Guys using the cheap ones don't know what they are missing as they can give the whisper tones for the deep coins that are on edge.

Over here in the U.K I've always used phones from the Detector Pro range. They are all quality built and produce quality audio. I'm currently using the Black Widows as I detect the beaches with my XLT and need to cut out a lot more of the wind and surf.

Be good if you could try different headphones to see which ones better fit the ears.
Phones with smaller cups will pinch your ears - which gets painful after a few minutes.
I bought the Gray Ghosts to go with my Sovereign GT.
They work well, and really keep out exterior noises.
Definitely avoid cheap headphones.
I bought a pair of bargain priced 'metal detecting headphones' from a well known metal detector store on eBay.
They looked great in the photo.
But when they arrived, the first thing you notice is a big sticker affixed to the headphones that reads:
'Warning: This product contains chemicals that cause cancer and birth defects. Wash hands after handling.'
And of course, they are made in China.
Even worse, the cord is too short to reach most metal detectors, and even at full volume you can barely hear from them.
And I'm not too comfortable wrapping my head with cancer causing chemicals.
The quality headphones do cost more, but with brands like Detector Pro who make Gray Ghost & Black Widow, you get a lifetime warranty and 'made in America' product.
I'm leaning more to the Black Widows, with the Killer B's a close second.
I like the idea that both cups are adjustable for volume. (old age).
I think both models have large enough ear pieces to fit completely over the ears. The
ones I use now need to be constantly adjusted to relieve the pinching
With any luck, I'll hit a good find that will pay for whatever I get.
Like my GT being paid off with the last ring that I scooped up.
Thanks all.
Ralph

I'm looking for a good set of earphones for my SOV GT.
Any opinions and experiences will be most appreciated.
The phones that came with the GT are sorry to say the least.
P.S. I'm considering Killer B's "wasp".
TIA
Ralph
I just purchased a Sov GT, don't know what headphones came with your unit. Mine came with the Koss UR30's. The following remarks came from another MD'ng site. I like the lifetime warranty, I've only been out once and the headphones seemed ok. The only comparison that I have is to the phones hardwired to my Dual Field.
In my first years of treasure hunting I went through a few different brands of headphones, they all did not last long, until I discovered Koss headphones. Their excellent sound quality, durability, and life-time warranty made me forget other brands forever. Since 1996, I have used only three pairs of Koss headphones, each "exhausted" pair was replaced by the manufacturer at no cost, no questions asked.
When I got my Explorer II, I was pleasantly surprised to find a collapsible Koss headphones along with my new machine in a box. Finally the Minelab gave up issuing the poorly designed set, which would last only a month of excessive detecting, in favor of a high quality and timeless brand.
