3 rings is a good day, but whenever you find a ring try using a spiral pattern out from the find or grid that area very well. Generally items collect together this may help in adding to your ring count...............HH

I had the same plan as you, but after 4 hours at the beach today (central California), I ended up with no rings and no gold.
