WTG Rae, so glad to see you get a BIG oldie~!! I imagine that gave you a bit thrill similar to your first gold ring! Can't tell from your photo if it is a mint one or a counterfeit, most are counterfeit, but since yours is from the beach, and in good shape, it might be the mint issued one. Never sure which is better, counterfeit or regal on the 8 Reales, probably counterfeits, but regardless, now you have been bitten by the old coin bug and will stare at that coin a lot. :hello2:

I know a certain beach that Beachcomber took me to many years ago, I was shocked at how the silver was like it came from on the land and wheat pennies that were not corroded. So I know the coins can be found and not need extensive cleaning to ID them......

You might want to look at this website, and perhaps contact the individual.

I think that it is the reale deal :tongue3:. If it were counterfit ,would en't it have a big "COPY" stamped on it.

Simple answer on COPY - No Refer to this website and it will increase your knowledge a tad on counterfeits of Spanish Silver.

http://www.counterfeitcoins.com/marc-8reales/Counterfeit-Spanish-Milled-Dollars.html

Because this coin is very close to the minimum regal weight I would strongly lean towards it being a regal 8 Reale, but sure am not an expert, but the obvious things to look for are not there. Still now sure if a counterfeit or a regal are different in collection value, counterfeits quite possibly could be more desired, due to their differences, just like colonial coppers that are counterfeit have more interest in general in the collecting world than a regal copper.
