Here is your chance if you don't want to pay millions of dollars for more sand to be dumped on our beaches.

The Army Corps of Engineers will accept public input on a beach renourishment project that would involve the beach from the power plant to the Martin County line.

The meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. May 19 at the St. Lucie County Commission Chambers, 2300 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce. The sand will come from an area roughly 3 miles offshore.

Comments can be submitted to the Corps of Engineers, Attn: Mr. Garett Lips, 4400 PGA Blvd., Suite 500, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 34410; or e-mailed to: [email protected]. before May 20.

Here is the link.

If this is anything like the DNR wanting public input on fishing quotas, or town councils wanting public input on zoning, then save your breath. If they get as far as having that meeting, they have alrady decided to do it. I am sure there is some rule that says they have to provide a forum for public input. Unfortunately, they do not have to actually listen. Beach replenishment is about money. They must provide space for tourists to lay there towels so that the towns and state can collect all of those tax revenues.

If you go, there will be the three lowest ranking officials and anywhere from 10-100 really hostile people. The people will rant and rave and cheer for each other while the officials will sit there and take their verbal beating. Then your beach will be burried in ocean bottom sand that looks like bad quarry fill.

Good luck. Maybe they will dredge up a treasure ship and dump it on your public beach.
