Same scoops I use, made near here in michigan. Treasuresdownunder.com is a great source for them, they are also near the source! Tough as heck and sift sand in the water freaky fast!

http://stores.treasuresdownunder.com/-strse-314/Magnum-Water-Scoop/Detail.bok

Way to go on the earings! I scooped a coin the other day, after giving up on a disappearing target, only to find that my"disappearing" target was a "nitro" earing stuck in one of the scoop squares!

Posted a link above. Purchased the small one initially, found that in sugar sand (lake michigan) and in the waves, the magnum worked better for me (deeper and higher percentage of first scoop recovery). If targets are not deep, the smaller does just fine though. Do tend to grab the smaller sized one for inland lakes though (clay/dirt/gravel), doesn't rock off to the side on hard bottom like the larger one tends to do. The large one is twice the volume of the small.

Thanks for the info to both of you. Do the wooden handles hold up pretty good?

Yeah, pick out a good one without knots, and make sure you drill the crosshole for the basket bolt closer toward the bottom of the handle/bracket. Can really crank and pry your heart out, I pried out a 4 inch screw-in sand anchor a couple weekends ago. Best part is, the wood handle floats, so no real worries if dropped.

This scoop won't work for me here in Michigan where I search now because of the gravel and Zebra Mussels.

I like it alot!! but don't you have a problem in the surf with the wood handle, my last wood handle scoop would leave me beat up from it hitting me with the waves. I think it would be great on the wet sand and low swells and the bay................maybe some video of you with it in action would help?? Get shark hunter to be director, camara man....................nice shark toof.....joe

It is not light once the handle is attached, about 5 lbs. but it compensates by digging a larger radius that helps to reduce the number of scoops needed to get the target.

I'm still fine tuning it to my satisfaction.
