So we are wandering around on a beach in South St. Lucie County just before dark when we see a deputy waving at us. Says beaches are closed for reconstruction. No tractors around. No "closed" signs for beach. Lotsa people on beach. Deputy was real nice, no ticket, apologized. County is pushing the envelope...beaches in Florida are owned by the state to mean high water, but the counties can and do own the access and parking. Beaches aren't dangerous..however, he STRONGLY discouraged us from straying too far from a beach that was open (per county directives). My question is..why does the county have the right to steal sand from the beach system to rebuild their property...as a Florida resident that sand belongs to me. Gonna haveta look into this one. BTW, lotsa sand building back up.

You will find one thing to be true about Fla. Bill, THEY SUCK! The idea that any public lands should be off limits to the citizens that paid for it is stupid. Many of us have had trouble with the state of Florida. Another thing I can't quite figure out is admirlty. Why can't I use my detector in the surf. It's not like I'm diving. Silly, I think. Anyway, HH! Chris
