Just checked my in box to find a PM from a "Tony1985".

Seems the poor chap has $15 mil US tied up in the UK, or was it Ghana?, some crap like that anyway.
He is wondering if I can help him out for a share of the loot.

I dont know if you guys in the US get many of these offers but here in Oz we get heaps.

They are ALL scams. Do NOT be tempted into having anything to do with these type of deals.
Ditto if you are notified of a big lottery win in say "Il Gordo", a huge Spanish lottery.

Unfortunately some people have lost tens of thousands to these scammers, dont be one of them

Lou.

Oh we get just as many of those over here too....It is usually someone died and relatives are trying to get their money out of some 3rd world country and if we would be so kind as to help we would get a share of millions....

12 years ago I got the same thing, but it came via a fax, I thought "what the heck is this?"

My spam filters some of this out, but not all. Basically if you don't know the person, don't even click on it to open it. Lately I forwarded a joke from a friend and it ended up with advertisments being sent to everyone on my contact address book. I closed that email account to stop it from bugging everyone, but not before lots of people cussed me out.

I get those all the time.

Usually the cash is tied up in Nigeria.

It's scary to think anyone would fall for this, but apparently its a lucrative scam. :icon_pirat:

I read about guys a while back "Scambaiting". Basically they would reply to these scammers and send them out on a wild goose chase. Promised them even more money. They convinced one scammer to take off around africa. Then they blogged his e-mails. By the end he was PLEADING for help. He was lost, hungry, and broke...in Africa. Nigeria I think. Not a good place to be lost. Kind of funny in a morbid sort of way. There is a video on youtube where a couple scammers were convinced to recreate Monty Python's "Dead Parrot" skit for money from a Scambaiter. They did pretty good actually.

I get those emails at least once a week. I must have billions of dollars waiting for me :tongue3:.....yeah right....I wish.

I sometimes mess with these people with a bogus email account that I have. The conversations with them get interesting. I honestly can't believe how anybody could fall for the scam.....but I do know someone who almost did. A doctor that I know had even set up accounts and was ready to wire money (almost $5k) when I explained to him and showed to him with me sending an email that it was a scam. This person was promised $15 million from a long lost uncle that he had never heard of, that had passed away, and this person in Nigeria was nice enough to locate him so that he could send him his millions.....he also said in the email that was sent to me that I had a long lost uncle (the uncle had the same first name as the doctor's uncle but with the bogus last name that I gave...too funny) and that there were millions waiting for me.

Thank you for the heads up on the pm scam. I'm sure the moderators will appreciate it that we keep them informed.

Yeah, I receive these all the time. And the offers of cheap Viagra, fake brand watches and products to become a Ron Jeremy look alike. These scams are a pain. But these scambaiter's internet sites mentioned above are pretty funny.

Here's a site that provides a little revenge for the scammed. Interesting reading.

http://www.419eater.com/

Funny :laughing7:....since I can't get out to metal detect for awhile this will be my pastime. The 419 revenge site and the people of walmart site are two to the best sites for free entertainment to cheer one up when one can't get out to detect........
