Old beach yields old silver....ring and "merc"

Hi :hello:

Beautiful at the beach this morning..not too hot , and a slight breeze.

Hunted at low tide....very old beach ( love those old beaches !)

Found what looks to be a vintage large silver ring , and a poor -condition "merc"..I think date is 1941.

Here's some pics...

thanks for looking

Lorraine

I think your on to something "hunting the less traveled beach lorriane". Yesterday there were 11 other swingers on the beach beside Fooser and myself. Im working on getting some pics up for everyone. We did manage 5 pieces of Junk and some clad.

An old beach sounds very inviting! Maybe more targets are lurking in the water. Thanks for sharing.

Cool signet ring.
Maybe made of coin silver?

Thanks, Da Sand Crab...I was thinking the same thing;doing a little research on it now.

Lorraine

Addendum to above post: I just acid tested this old ring marked "SILVER" ...and the test was negative...now I'm wondering if the acid test kit is effective on coin silver. :dontknow:

Addendum to the addendum : acid tested a "merc"..tested positive, so this is not a silver ring..mystery solved...something I found interesting is that there is a marking ( stamping ) of some sort...it is the letter "O" or "U" and on either side are three small stripes in the shape like a bird's foot imprint. The ring had also been resized.

Here's a pic of the stamping
