Where can one purchase an Aquasound MD?

I hear a lot about the Aquasound metal detector. From what I understand they are made by someone in florida and are supposed to be the absolute best machine to use on florida beaches. Is there a place to purchase a new one? Can you only buy them used, if you can find one for sale? I have also heard that they are rather pricey.

    Your thoughts?.....................

To add, i think Florida Electronics makes it. Im told it doesnt do well on beaches with black sand or mineralization. Aquasearch is a PI and the Aquasound is a TR.

Re: Where can one purchase an Aquasound MD?

The Aquasound is made by Richard Rudy In Bocca Raton. Richard goes by "Mr. Gold" on the forum, although he does not post his finds. He has a friend who has an Aquasound, "The Bulgarian" who is from that area and also posts on this forum, but not often. You can reach Richard at: beachkazooty@comcast.net. I live on the East Coast, but not in Florida and bought an Aquasound from him last February. We have a 6' tidal variation here with quite a bit of wave action. Unfortunately, at the beaches where I hunt there is also quite a bit of black sand. Since the detector is very sensative, the black sand causes it to false quite a bit on the highest power setting. The unit comes with a heavy water coil that glides through the water and a lighter weight land coil that floats like crazy in the water. My preferred method of hunting is to follow the tide out and work the edge of the water. However, the detector falses in the churning water at the edge of the surf and the coils are designed for water or land hunting but not both water and land at the same time with the same coil, since the water coil is too heavy to use on land and the land coil floats. So for me and the places where I detect the detector is not as effective as it would be in South Florida with less tidal variation, less wave action and no black sand. I know I am not able to get optimum performance out of my detector here but it still finds targets slightly deeper than my Whites Dual Field PI detector. HH to ya, Ralph

Re: Where can one purchase an Aquasound MD?

For those who have never used one here is a bit of info.

Price wise it cost more than a a Excal, about twice the price. It comes with 2 coils, a weighted water coil and a land coil. The detector goes very deep and gives sharp loud signals. It has a quite and a boost mode. If you are hard of hearing , no problem you will hear the signal. It will distinguish between iron ond other metals. Believe me, you will never dig another bottle cap. Iron gives a bong signal and you won't have to dig it. It works well in the florida west coast and beaches that don't have black sand. Once you learn the machine you can tell if the target is small or larger. The water coil is too heavy to detect the wet sand but you can change coils to the land one which is much lighter.

A quote I like and believe whole heartedly! By Jim Brouwer (Gold Beneath The Waves 2011)"I Don't Want More Depth"..... "I want Less sand"
This is such a true statement Less sand always trumps more depth from a detector. If you learn to find the low spots instead of hunting like a blind squirl, even a 100 dollar machine can still come home with the gold. More depth just increases the chance of none recovery and disappointment, and most of all wasted hunting time. Spending 10 minutes recovering a coin at 25 plus inches while the hole caves in! Learn to hunt with the machine you have and where to hunt, you'll increase your finds by 50% the first year!

Buried Crap NJ, that all is so true. But often the sand in many areas just doesnt get washed away, at least here on the West Coast of Florida. But checking places for washed out bottom is the best way to score. Or washed out beaches. And when you do find one, it wont last long. I think of it like a gold pan getting rinsed out, a sanded beach is like the shovel full of sand you put in your pan, you might find a tiny piece laying on top of that, but when it is washed away, your chances of finding gold are way up. Sand goes away, leaving the gold and anything heavy. I hate digging a huge deep hole for a folded pull tab or a lead sinker. It takes a long time and wastes good finds.

We dont get the sand errosion down here like you do up on the atlantic coast in the north east.... Unless we get a hurricane or tropical storm our sand has been very slow to move off the beaches the last several years.....

Re: Where can one purchase an Aquasound MD?

Thanks for the replies. And yes , one of the reasons I was considering this machine is that it goes deeper than the average machine. But also that you do not dig any bottle caps with this machine. From what I understand there are only two tones described and a "bong" and a "swoosh" you dig every swoosh and leave every bong, and when your in the water getting tossed around like a sock in the spin cycle digging up a bottle cap, that could be worth the money.

And about finding the low spots, We do get some low spots but they come few and far between. Here in South Florida aside from the hurricane, low spots are usually created by rip currents, leaving a scallop at the surf line. I have spent a lot of time studying sand movement and tidal effect on the beaches here. And with so much competition here and little sand moving "out", you need a machine that will go deeper.

But $2800......ouch. IS it really worth that much?

Re: Where can one purchase an Aquasound MD?

If you believe there are more swooshes than bongs out there it could pay for its self quickly. Dont take a lot of gold now days to pay for a good water machine if you learn to use it AND its not setting in the closet. Ive noticed two philosophies .... hunt slow and dig it all or cover as much ground as possible and waste as little time as possible. Like making a choice PI/VLF it depends on you location and timing.
