As a kid I use to MD the beaches in Sarasota, FL. Found alot of clad and rings but nothing old. Now I own a place in DE. It appears to me that the shoreline is receding and I want to find old coins. I thought I would detect as close to the water as possible during the lowest tides to possibly find older coins. Will this work or am I going to just get wet soxs and cold feet.

Re: Some technical questions about beachcombing.
Why would older coins be closer to the water line? Sand movement would bury coins and uncover them again. Most detectors will have trouble being stable in the wet saltwater sand and you would do better with a Multi frequency like an Excal, CZ-20/21, or even a Pulse Induction unit.
Thanks Sandman. I thought since the beach is receding the "Original beach" from the 1930's may be 20 yards of shore. True, waves and tides probably mix things up so my hypothesis my just be full it.
