i hunt out of central fl, from jetty park to vero inlet. my settings are my biggest problem. a lot of people try to help by saying set to 12 o'clock or 9 etc.
my settings are disc---treshold 3/4-----volume full---sensitivity 6-----desc7
i have found that i dig everything even a hair pin 12" deep
saturday i found a quarter and it had the same sound as the beer bottle cap
now, i'm not complaining because i find a lot of stuff BUT i mainly want the good stuff.
thanks for your time and help

DO NOT SET DISCRIM HIGHER THAN 2 OR YOU WILL LOOSE GOLD!
I'm freshwater not salt.
I have two Excals (1999 and 2011)
Both are used in auto
disc 1
volume 1/2 way wading , full volume when diving. SET IT THE SAME EVERY TIME or targets will sound different when the volume is not the same every time
threshhold barely audible
90 gold rings in 12 yrs

I'm with snook, PP mode you can run senstivity higher, giving you more depth and if you have ever used a PI, PP mode is smiliar. Each target has a shape, nails double beep, coins and rings have a sharp ramp up n down, etc...But which mode you use has alot to do with the hunting conditions, each can vary on performance from one beach to the next.

Discriminate ..1
volume.......... full
treshold.........just audible
senstivity...disc mode 11 to 12 depending on conditions
senstivty....PP mode just out of auto..9 o'clock Hot
these settings are for the older 2006 n below models that I use
