Hi,:hello:

Rain finally stopped, and although it was foggy for a while out there it was fun to be out diggin' again.

Found a few clads before I heard that nice low tone and scooped out a 62 yrs. old class ring from under those rocks.

Those old class rings were made in such a nice style...I 'd say "classy".8-)

Here's some pics of the 2 1/2 hr. hunt as I chased the tide out.

thanks for looking at my post and pics

Really nice find! :icon_thumright:

You did a great job cleaning it too. Electrolysis?

I had a freckled 14k ring that was a similar age. I used hydrochloric acid (swimming pool)[super dangerous - need to be very careful] for about 5 seconds and then a mild baking soda polish.

thanks, Dr. Joe,

Yes, I did a bit of electrolysis on this ring, about 10 minutes...it had that green accumulation in some spots; then I rinsed it and gently rubbed it with baking soda.

I could've done a better job...there is still some "green" visible , but I'll leave it as is.

thanks,

I used electrolysis followed by gentle rubbing with baking soda and finally a shine with jeweler's rouge ( black crayon)

It's still not as clean as I would like it to be, but I haven't got any more time to spend cleaning it.

Lorraine: I think I love your beaches as much as I love your finds. Ever find old copper or bronze boat nails, rivets or fittings? I can just smell the sand and hear the slosh of the tidal wavelets. It's no fun living inland from the coast. That truly is a wonderful ring. The design almost has an art deco feel to it.

thanks, billinoregon,

Yes, I find those old rivets, and all kinds of fittings...some heavy , some lighter.Sorry, I don't know very much about the various metals, but it's all there ...too much of it in those "muddy flats."

I'm going to try, JimDon. There is no school name on it, just an initial; and no name inside the band...just initials on the sides.
