Sounds like a robery and stash to me . rob a house on the beach bury the stash then come back later when the coast is clear?

Im in more of agreement with herb, may have even been on the beach at on time and worked its way out their, looks like cross may be silver, but I bet it was in a ladies purse fell out when packing up the towells and cooler and worked its way out to sea

I was also thinking the "robbery" theory. They probably kept
only the good stuff (gold/silver) and chucked the rest in a hurry to get rid of any evidence.
It happened to a detector friend who found a pile of junk jewelry buried
in the sand. Talking about it around the small community caught the ear of
a resident who got robbed and the identified the find as theirs, minus the gold.
