Drove the 2 1/2 hrs again to hook up with Whydah on the Cape
met atone beach where I got gold few weeks ago that we thought might hold more
We got no gold - but Whydah got a nice relic - a big ole brass US lock (hopefully he will post)
It most likely is military and I would say possibly 1800's or early 1900s
My 3rd target after getting in was a little silver man statue - very curious
found it after finding 2 fishing sinkers at the end of a fishing jetty
(I will make a separate post on this guy)
we hunted for over an hour with not much to show for our efforts
We were waiting for our ride to show up - our ladies went out tag saling - we were ready to leave
because we just werent hittin it and more people were showing up here
I hit a spot that I found an old brass bathing suit buckle and 2 brass beach tags - both good signs
then up popped a buffalo nickel - then a caked silver Roos. - then a standing liberty quarter
I started to grid the area - getting older clad and 2 caked Mercs. and then another buffalo
kept thinking i was going to get gold - didnt get it here - but was happy i got some good finds
IMGP0584.JPG IMGP0587.JPG
We grabbed some lunch and headed to another spot where we had both gotten gold and had a lot
of space yet to hit - Whydah got a V-nickel after being in the water a short while
I got squid rig out deep - then started hitting sinkers = which to me is a good sign
I have said it many times before - you hit sinkers - it means no one has been over that spot
I got a loud blast and thought I had yet another sinker was surprised when I saw class ring in my scoop
disappointing though was the sch. emblem was gone - i searched the area for it - but no luck
got a gold under my belt and would go home happy - but there were more to come
worked about another 100yrds with only a stray coin and more sinkers - hit a popular section with a lot
of people - most were all shallow and there were only a couple people out with us
*there was another great white shark spotted in Cape waters - thats 3 in last few weeks - I think it is keeping everyone close to shore
I was in about 6 feet of water - hunting on my toes - i got another good signal and was surprised to come up with
another class ring - an oldie - 1930
All of a sudden the skys started getting dark and thunder started booming
Whydah had started back towards where we got in - so I started back
I hit a few patches in shallow where I got sinkers and some thin worn coins - i would do a quick grid
as i could hear lightning thru my head phones - I would get a few sinkers and few coins in one small area
grid quick and keep moving towards my vehicle - 50 yards later - Id hit another small patch of finds
in one spot I came up with 3 silver Roosies - a silver war nickel - silver religious medal - face of a silver ring and a few sinkers
i gridded it quick - finds were in about a 20 by 20 foot area
i got to an area where I had gotten a walking liberty half before - i decided to head in shallower where I had not gone before
i hit a few more thin coins and then got a louder deep signal - thought it was going to be another old sinker
was surprised once again to come up with yet another old class ring - 1945
once again disappointed that the emblem was gone (this is the 3rd class ring this year missing its emblem)
I was again went real slow around the area trying to see if the emblem might be there - no luck
lightning was increasing so got my butt out - would have stayed longer had weather stayed good
but I may not have made that last ring find had storm not drove be back
I'm not greedy though was happy to get some gold & silver
I had a good day :icon_sunny:

Have hunted in lightning many times :tongue3:
am under water - only snorkel sticking up 2 inches
I have heard of one detectorist being killed by lightning
he was in shallows standing straight up - think it was in lake Mich.
If I have to choose a way to go - doing what i love would be it :angel7:

Man your killing it...keep em coming. Sometimes when Im hunting I feel like the gold is deeper than my machine is reaching. When I start digging lead I know Ive got a chance.
