I'm heading to myrtle beach for the week (next week) and plan on bringing my at pro and infinium.
Couple quick questions for you water hunters. I don't have waterproof phones but was thinking of picking up a pair. The connectors on the infinium and atpro look the same. Will one set of the Garrett waterproof phones interchange?
The other thing, sand scoop. I see alot of different models and I was really wanting one with a longer handle that I didn't have to get on my knees with every time. I was looking on feebay and there are a couple models on there. One that grabbed my interest. I'll probably only use it for a week a year but I want it to work good.
This thing looks like a monster and I'd even think about dragging it to the rocky clay and harder bottom at some of the local lakes.
Guys getting 200 for this scoop. Should I look elsewhere? Is there one that'll serve my purpose for less?
Sun Spot Stealth scoop is what I have and I love it. You can get a good scoop for a little cheaper if you look around. A good scoop will pay for itself in no time.
Don't buy that scoop, it's built to much like a shovel and it will work you to death. Get you a RTG or stealth scoop. I use this ,it's a stealth suger sand scoop,work very good.

I bought the one In the pic I posted. Guy on eBay selling it. It looks pretty rugged, suppose the weight might be an issue after a while but the thing looks like a monster so I guess we'll see what goods it finds me next week. Between the scoop and waterproof headphones I just bought the wife will probably banish me to the ocean until I come back with something really good anyway. Win win....I think?
I was thinking that might be a possibility ron, wish I had seen your post this morning. I'm no little guy so I think I'll handle it ok but I was thinking between the scoop and that heavy pig infinium I'd have my hands full.
The seller pretty much guarantees you will not be disappointed with it. Couldn't find any complaints with it but that doesn't mean much. I'm leaving sat so I didn't have any time to waste or I'd be going with no scoop.
There are quite a few good scoops around. Just google sand scoop and you will find what you want. Do not cut cost on your scoop. After all if your detector can locate a nice target but your scoop is subpar then you can not retrieve it. What habe you accomplished? The water scoop in your picture looks like it is well made. I personally have the large sun spot water scoop and would not do without it. For dry sand I have a wire basket type of scoop that lets the sand out easily. In both scoops I do have 2 rare earth magnets. One inside the scoop and one outside. The magnets will not stick to the stainless so I have to put one on each side so they attract to each other. They are great for catching fish hooks, small wire, and junk jewelry that you dig that would slip through the holes in your scoop. They are a great way to get a quick check on jewelry when in the water too. If it sticks it is junk, if not it could be gold or silver.
For the magnets, I got mine off of e-bay. They are a little expensive. I bought the N43 magnets. They will hold up to 750 POUNDS. DO NOT GET THEM CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER WHILE HOLDING THEM OR THEY WILL TAKE YOUR FINGER OFF IF IT GETS BETWEEN THEM. Actually they were stronger than I anticipated. You can get them from N25 to N53 in strength. the lower strength would be plenty. The highest strength will hold 1500 pounds. Way too dangerous to handle. If you buy them, place one on the outside of the scoop where you want it and while holding it in place just drop the other magnet on the inside of the scoop. It will stick to the first magnet. When an item is dug up that is magnetic like a bottle cap, just slide it off the magnet. Works great.
If you need a Magnet don't go to e-bay , go to your local Ace Hardware for $5 to $7 no shipping .You can buy speaker for less than $10 and they all have magnets in them. Or if you live near a scrap yard you can buy speaker there for about $2 Radio shack sell magnet for $.25 there is lots of places where you can buy magnets cheaper than E-Bay
Ron - how do you get the magnet off the speaker? They are usually on there with epoxy or something? Hammer??

What is the standard when you've got the target in your scoop. I've seen videos of guys doing this and when the sand is gone but you still don't see it they have a little float in tow that the contents are dumped on. That way you can find what your after without walking up to the shore to recheck the contents. I've seen them rigged up out of pool noodles. You guys doing something or usually just pick it out of the scoop?
I picked up a 3" magnet from a local Harbour Freight Tools store by me for about $3 for a 2 pack. The one I bought had a little clip on the back that I bent to hold it to the basket on my dry sand beach scoop.
It works good for picking up bottle caps.

K ron. Ive never busted one off before so I want sure if it was going to be in a bunch of little unusable pieces. I do have a harbor freight and radio shack not too far so I'll try that.

Ron, I was seriously considering the Stealth scoop you have, the S3I Sugar Sand Classic. I don't know where you're from but i assume you have sugar sand. I'm at the Jersey Shore where most of the sand is sugar sand. I read on their site that the other S2I with all 1/2 holes drains faster. What is your opinion? Does yours take a bit of work and time to drain? Would you think you would have been better with the one with all 1/2" holes? Are the smaller holes in the center worth it just to possibly catch an earring?

I hunt with the sand shark detector and dig alot of small gold. The small 1/4 holes are great small shells and sand go right there the little holes, It's like having a sifter with you.I was spendding alot of time digging one target,because it was falling through the bigger holes,now I dig and go. It has cut my digging time down greatly.I have 2 other scoop with the bigger holes.I use them for back up only.I live in Naples, Fl.
