18 K earring laying on top of a sand bar;I think I'll wear it to the Innaugural Ball

typo: should read "inaugural"::)

That is...if I get invited :laughing7:

Hi:hello2:,

Got in a 2 1/2 hr. hunt this morning following the tide out.

Was finding only clads in the first 2 hrs. and was ready to "call it a day" , but looked across at a sand bar and thought " why not give it a try"...that's where I found this 18 K ornate earring in full view just laying there on top of the wet sand mound!

In addition to the 18K stamping, I filed a tiny piece and acid tested it...result 18K

But here's the thing: I didn't see it there until after the coil went over it and I heard the sound...maybe I need glasses?:dontknow:

The matching one was no where to be found.

The stones are pretty, but faux ???

Here's some pics

Thanks for looking

Lorraine

Neat Bling! :icon_thumright: Funny you should mention that it was right on top. I did about two hours on the beach at low tide last evening and I kept finding coins laying right on top of those sandy ripples where the water had been running off. I think I found almost as many coins with my eyes as I did my detector. But, I still didn't find enough to buy a coffee. :crybaby2: Nice earring!

Wonder if it was lost during a little "hanky panky" on the sand bar at night :)

I like it. I wear polarized sunglasses over my prescription lens. They really cut the glare and allow you to see the bottom.

That's very stylish. You didn't need to find the other. The new trend is to ear just one earring.

"You are cordially invited to attend the Presidential Ball in honor of President.......................... (you fill in the blank!) However, we have a very strict dress code and you MUST attend wearing two matching earrings!" Get out there and try to find the other one! LOL

Again, I'll ask the pressing question...why do women only lose one earring?

Seriously, Lorraine, really nice earring!

Great find Lorraine!! :headbang: Seems odd that the stone are imitation, and the setting is 18 K. My wife said it might be because some people are allergic to metals other than gold. You can wear it to the inaugural ball, as long as you keep your earring side to the cameras. :icon_scratch: :)

Really a nice earring, Lorraine! Congrats!:hello2:

I find a lot of earrings ... a very few are silver but I have yet to find a gold one. I suspect that gold earrings do not register well on metal detectors. I think I just might have them discrm'd out? I've set up my Deus with a zero discrim program and digging more of the foil...so maybe a gold earring is in my future.

Gold earrings can be tricky to detect...I've had many different strange sounds depending on the style , shape , and size of the gold earring target.

I wish you the best of detecting with the Deus.

I agree with you Burldrives. The clasp with the angular tip just doesn't look like it would easily go into an ear lobe.
