Had two beach hunts last week, I hadn't gotten out in about a month but it was great to be back at it. The first beach hunt proved better than the second. On the first hunt I found a big silver ring and a tiny 1 gram 14k ring. I also found some old coins, an 1890 V nickel, an 1893 Barber Quarter which was my first Barber Quarter find ever and an 1896 Indian Head penny. Unfortunately coins don't hold up well as you can see in the picture. The Barber started breaking apart after cracking it open from it's encrustation. During the second huntm I found an encrusted ring which turned out to be brass after giving it a good soaking in Tarnx as my friend George suggested, and two wheat pennies. The rest was modern clad. Here's a picture of the finds from the first hunt. Steve

Very cool finds. I don't know if that silver can be salvaged. I've never seen one so bad that it was breaking apart. Even if it's junk, it's still a cool find.

Unfortunately it's toast, it will totally break apart if I mess around with it anymore. I'm lucky I got to identify it and that it didn't totally crumble on me when I broke it out of the encrustation.

There is always more to be found as you know :). I definitely don't find the stuff by going fast, It's not easy hunting there.
