Hunted with The Lucky Leprechaun today. I decided to take him to a valued park that I have found many silver coins over the years...Silver Dollars and Half Dollars are found there on ocasions... Today was no different. Although the coins were very scarce, they proved to be very good in quality...I found a couple of old Tootsie Toys, one was a red wagon and the other was a broken car from the 50's... Targets were plentiful, but mostly junk tin and small pieces of brass... I got this 1853 - 3 Cent piece at 8 + inches and just couldn't beleive it...This makes 2 1850's coins for me in the past couple of weeks... The other was the 1851 C ? Gold Dollar that made the BANNER... They are about the same diameter in size... My hearing must be getting better... or I am learning the detecter better... Thanks for looking... Loving this Hobby even more than when I first started... Happy Thankgiving.... 1853 3 cent piece (6).JPG 1853 3 cent piece (7).JPG 1853 Silver 3 cent piece (8).JPG 1853 Silver 3 cent piece (10).JPG

Those are hard to come by and most were circulated so much they were rubbed thin back in the day. Silvers is a pretty soft metal so thats in outstanding condition.

Whydah, that coin find is extraordinary!:wav:

And it takes an extraordinary detectorist to find a coin like that!...Congratulations to you!:hello2:

Now, I know the way East....maybe I'll see you at one of the beaches there soon and I'll get me one of those rare coins.

Hey Whydah,

Absolutely fantastic find! And the 1851C dollar is extraordinary.

The US started minting 3 cent pieces in 1851 to make it easier for people to pay for 3 cent stamps being sold by the post office.

The 1851 dollar was minted in Charlotte NC. That's the "C". They made about 41,000.

Keep up the good hunt. I can't wait to see your next finds!
