How many pounds would one take to a dive shop to be worth the trip?

Usually where there are fishing weights there is gold. I'd go back if I were you.

Not sure of your situation, but throwing the lead in a bucket or coffee can and sell the accumulated weight at the end of season is another option. You could melt them yourself if you have a well ventilated area (outside is the preferred place). Best of luck finding the gold hiding out amongst the lead, never thought of that. Thanks Les, for the advise, I will remember that.

I just threw them in with the rest! Never thought they could be sold for scrap!!! I will go out in the same area again tomorrow and try my luck. It will be interesting to detect the same area i did today and see what a new tide will bring.

I found the most fishing weights I ever have this year and also found the most gold rings I ever have this year -soooo...

in the past I have sold salt water fishing weights to fishermen for half of what they pay for new usually
I was selling a bunch at a yard sale for around 25c each for thebig ones - guys were snatching them up
I made my own dive belt with bunch I found long ago too - I have over 70lbs in dive belt weights I made
bought a cheap mold and borrowed a smelter
long long ago - used to melt them down and make my own musket balls with them
I'll just keep the ones I got now - I know I got over 100 lbs easy
I also found a bunch of actual dive weights this yr too
