Great machine for Wet saltwater sand and IN the saltwater. It is NOT an all purpose beach machine, as it is a Pulse Induction - NO Discrimination detector, so it beeps on EVERYTHING. Mine paid for itself several times over, but in the dry sand there is just Too much garbage metal to use it. You will dig small bread ties and irorn screws at 12"..

The Tesoro Sand Shark is a very good machine, but as Terry says, be prepared to dig deep , as it has good depth, but no discrimination. One of the best VLF machines for water hunting is the Minelab Excalibur II.

If you are freshwater hunting, then I really like my Tiger Shark. But it wouldn't be a great choice for saltwater beaches. Or rather, there are better choices.

Terry have you used the machine in freshwater? I'm looking for a water machine that can be productive in both salt and freshwater.

what Terry said plus the sand sharks coil appears to be thinner than others and allows me to stay in the water longer before tiring. It seems to slice through the water easier than other machines I have used.

Again, it works just fine in fresh and saltwater, but it does not discriminate. You will need to get a multi-frequency VLF like a Fisher CZ 21 or Minelab Excalibur in order to knock out iron in fresh and saltwater.

"Where will you be doing most of your saltwater hunting?" (what area of the country?) This can play a role in machine choice as well.

I'll be hitting the Va beach area a couple times per year. I also plan to hit some freshwater swimming holes that are local.
