please list ways to clean silver that's been in salt water a long time...blackish grey , you know ...Lorraine is the master but others have thoughts too...all help appreciated many thanks...HH...DAVE

Most Aggressive: Muriatic Acid
Second Most Aggressive: Layer pan with aluminum, fill with water, bring to a boil, throw in silver. Repeat as needed.
Easiest: Throw in white vinegar
Slowest: Put in a rock tumbler

"Electrolysis"....quick, simple, and effective on all but the worst conditions. Making an electrolysis bath is also pretty simple and cheap. I use mine all the time. There are several internet sources with directions for making a simple but effective electrolysis bath.

I use electralis [excuse my spelling] for about 5 to 10 minutes then rub with baking soda hope this helps

White vinegar and salt, make shore there is no penny in the mix or every thing will turn copper color.

As far as cleaning silver, what do you use as a sacrificial anode? I see a lot of posts use a stainless steel spoon but I have read in many places that stainless steel is not a good material to use for that purpose.

I use a regular kitchen spoon,salt in the water,and a 5 volt phone charger.

Hey guys using electrolysis.

I use a long 5/16" stainless steel eye-bolt, eye in a solution of distilled water and baking soda, + lead clipped to the top of the eye-bolt threads. This has been working well for me.

The good thing about SS is it doesnt rust away as you use it. I use kitchen spoons normally from goodwill..... momma caught me using her kitchen spoons.... i was in trouble. Elec.... is very immediate just make sure the one bubbling is the target otherwise you have it hooked up backward. If you can use copper gator clips otherwise you arent going to get much use out of them. In crevices is use a tooth brush and Bar Keeper Friends to complete the process. If you use any corrosive like vinagar ... make sure you follow it with a baking soda solution to stop the process.

Bring pot of water to boil.
Place square of aluminum paper in water.
Add 2 tablespoons iodized salt.
Place item on top of aluminum foil.
Add 1 tablespoon baking soda.

Large foam will instantly form, let process continue for 2-3 minutes.
Take item out, rinse, brush with tooth brush.

Like new.

I just went to Walmart and found a stainless steel canister for $5.00, the power inverter is from an old lap top.
I just made a platform to hold the piece I was cleaning that way it gets cleaned on all side at once.
