Dram,

It looks a lot better than the one I made from a cat litter scoop, one thing I did was to rivet a piece of heavy gage coil stock to the front as a cutter blade. I secures it tightly to the front inside lip. But your's looks stronger with the PVC fitting. Great job.....Gary

Thanks Gary, I am trying to keep all metal out of the scoop so I can pass it under the detector to see if target is inside scoop. After cutting the 45* angle to the front I used a half round file on the inside to further sharpen the leading edge.

Your going to need to reinforce where handle meets scoop, look at professional scoops....

I was wondering about that. The handle goes all the way through and sits in a bored hole on the other side and immersed in resin with west system 404 mixed in. The handle is oak as well. I will add a brace to it...

I made one recently out of a exhaust pipe the bigest thing I found after useing it was I needed to lean the handle back. With it straight up and down it was really annoying trying to foot it into the dirt.

Nice shop. Wish I could keep mine just half as tidy.

I leaned mine back as far as I could and keep the connection strong. I can see what your saying though.

Well I just Finnished putting on four coats of polyurethane. I will try it out hopefully this weekend. Should work really well in dry sand.

Good luck. Since I made mine and got the AT PRO I've went out twice. Didn't find anything special but it was nice not to have to bend over and dig a thousand holes for once
