If you rent a car, take the hubcaps off and place in the trunk.

There is a lot of poverty in Puerto Rico alot of people there on welfare there so they have more money to spend on gold jewelry u can try the tourist beaches but I would try and find the local beaches I seen one person snorkeling and not one metal detector while I was there they like to wear jewelry I had a lot of people come try to talk to me but I don't know Spanish I had no problem with metal detector as a carry on and I check my scoop in as luggage good luck

San Juan of all places don't leave anything unattended. BTW the Embassy suites in SJ is very nice and close to the beach. If you have time and it's not too far go to El Yunque rain forest. The people are very friendly and the little cafes have great authentic food.

Thanks Dennco I was in PR for the first time two years ago (pre Metal Detecting) and we did go to El Yungue. We did the walk down to the waterfall and back up, what a workout, couldn't walk for a full day after that.

Oh and after being a Scotch drinker for years I converted to Rum.

I went to PR a few years ago as well. If you like beautiful beaches, go to Vieques. It's an island off the right coast. The ferry only costs a few bucks.
My understanding is that's where the PRs go for vacation.

Looks like I'll be going to Puerto Rico in two weeks to help the wife with a family matter and was thinking of taking my machine but not sure if they are allowed.

We will be staying in a town SE of San Juan so the North Eastern beaches are the closest.

Yes you can but I'm pretty sure you are going to drink lot of rum instead of metal detecting. :laughing7: Humacao beach area is a great place to begin on SE of the island.

Good luck!

The only place that I know in the Caribbean that you can't detect is Cuba.
But I guess you Americans don't have to worry about that. :icon_silent:

Hi:
To EVERYONE here living in PR or visits PR to metal detect:

I have been thinking hard about going to PR to maybe live. I'm 69 whose only income
is my Social Security and am wondering;;;;
1. how expensive is it to live there...
2. How SAFE is it to metal detect on the beaches...
3. Is there a Metal Detecting club there...

I did a look up on Google and found more than a few warning
about crime there, especially if you come with a sign around your
neck that READS TOURIST...or NEW GUY!

I'd like very much to connect with locals who metal detect there and form
some relationships.

What can you tell me. I speak absolutely no Spanish at all.

Would appreciate your help.
Write me if you want at [email protected]

Regards

If you haven't done so, you can look up information on Puerto Rico on The World Factbook - Central Intelligence Agency on the web.
Recommend you look into Costa Rica also, where I don't think speaking Spanish is as important.

Yes, you can. Just fill in the holes. No problems with plane either. Find some Spanish gold or Dutch Gillians
