I had to try to get in - Monday before sunset - Ft. Laud.
my mask is in my hand - wave before hit me from the side and so hard water got in it
pulled it off and was going to put it back on - until next wave came along
one you see knocked me down and knocked my headphones off
luckily I held onto my scoop and mask and machine
DSCN1679.JPG
(a few yrs back - I got hit with a wave at a R.I. bch - 3 times as high
and lost my mask and scoop - never saw them again)

I hit the wet sand for about an hour after this

Casper did you bring your 80 lb weight belt? That water is to dangerous for anybody to mess with. I'm glad you got out safely.

Glad you stayed safe. I use the Limbsaver sling and it keeps up with my detector, but I've never hunted in the ocean. I have been knocked down by boat wakes tho.

Try that in Hawaiian surf, and you might never be seen again.
The waves come in fast and hit hard here since there is no continental shelf to slow them down.
Even wet sand hunting can be dangerous. We avoid turning our back to the water, especially on unprotected beaches as a wave can jack up and snatch you off the shore. I am talking about the usual stuff which hit us, not the big waves.

Had a hunting partner Jeff that was one of the tuffest when it came to ruff waters. Until it almost killed him, now he is more carefull then me. We were hunting Hurricane Irene waters OC Maryland, Wave knocked him down, then he was gone. He got out for a second then was knocked down and pulled out, luckily he was pushed back in and was able to get out this time. I was about 100 yards away and all happened so fast. Your a great hunter Casper but mother nature has no heart. Be Safe....

I have the greatest respect for our pacific ocean Down here in Queensland (eastern side of Australia) nearly drowned and lost more scoops and gear I would like to mention.
Now days unless it's still water I'm not interested .I'm worth more than a few gold rings and to be honest I have developed a bit of fear that I cant seem to shake as I get older.

I wear a kayak/dive jacket - it makes me a little more buoyant
I wear mask and snorkel 95% of the time
I actually got caught in a rip tide and was being dragged out my first day in - in fla.
I didn't fight it - just picked my feet up- floated - and swam wearing my mask and snorkel till
I got in a good area to head in - luckily I did not have to give up my scoop or machine
Fla. waters Im pretty buoyant anyways - but jacket makes it so its a little easier - plus keeps me warmer longer so I can stay in all day

Sweet finds Casper. I really like the money clip and the wad of cash. If you don't mind me asking how much was in the clip?
