Can you please add some info as in where generally it was found?
Or any other items found in that area?
Are you sure of the metal?
This might sound silly but did you try hitting it with a magnet?

I'm using some photo enhancement to try to make out the lettering around the edge can you make out any of the letters? I think I have some of them... Maybe a thin piece of paper laid over top and do a rubbing with a lead pencil.
A little more info then from the ocean would be necessary what part of the coast may I ask?

, here's where I'm at... "Braie" is a French word that's english translation means to weld or the act of welding. I could be off but I'm starting to think that's not a coin but instead an insignia or seal... Would still love to see the back

Though it does look like a previously holed coin.

That could be it, GatorBoy; contour of forehead, nose, top of head, and "Bun" hairdo seem to line up.
But that neckline on the found coin ( if that is what it is does not seem to have the same contour as the Canadian coin, but my eyes could be deceiving me :icon_scratch:?

It could lose all it's detail. The black crust could be the only thing preserving what little detail is visible.

That could be true but then at the end of the day all you will have is a badly damaged hardly identifiable object that appears to be a coin.
I suppose it's personal preference but personally I would clean it up to see what's left of it

I'd agree with GatorBoy and give electr. a whirl. IMO, the current condition is only worth its weight in silver.
