I'm planning to hit the beach over the next few days. Looking forward to hearing from anyone else finding treasure under the moonlight!

Don't know about that full moon but the low tides are going to be 1/2 a foot above normal here in NJ. Will have to double check?

Saw another swinger out tonight at the Patricia Grand. I scored some large sea shells and a bottle cap-

meanwhile back in the north Georgia mountains --- The juices are just flowing through my sluice box right now with the wonderful all powerful heavy rains .. keep on flushing that float gold right through my custom made sluice , specifically made to trap that float gold .. full moon above those rain clouds . I can sleep easy knowing my sluice is on auto pilot while it rains . !!

UPDATE : Rain did excellent flow in my custom stream sluice . Just loaded with Black sand !!! Time to classify , Roast , grind,. Run through a micro sluice and catch that float gold. !! Save the black sands for more PMG processing ,..

Hey guys, for these super-low tides times of the year, just keep in mind that if the wet sand is "sterile" (no erosion. No sand "going out"), then the only thing that super low tides do .... is expose LOTS MORE STERILE sand within which to walk around and find nothing in .

Lots of sand here, but I'm still new to the hobby and just like to be out in the full moonlight. I'll be checking with my marine biology friends as far as beach erosion goes.. Happy hunting!

Perfectly said! On my area beaches May is terrible hunting, easterly winds start bringing in more sand to quickly cover up what little remained in the winter firm pack within reach. In the mean time the beach traffic is very sparse, mostly just weekends until the kids are out of school, not enough steady beach traffic to provide much of anything. On top of this, that new sand below the water is soft and deep and moving and anything dense that gets lost in it is quickly swallowed up. May is a big transition month on my area beaches and like Tom said, low tides typically just expose more sterile sand.

Hey bigscoop, being a rookie in south east Florida, when will it start to get better? After some tropical systems push through towards the end of the summer? I thought that I was just on a dry streak or had some serious beginners luck in March and April. I'm glad that i read your post brother. Any info will be mucho appreciato!

Typically, on my area beaches, things will start to pickup once the kids are out of school and the beaches become crowded "everyday" instead of just on the weekends. The weekend traffic will provide some drops but not near enough to carry on much past Monday or Tuesday. However, once the kids are out of school and those family outings and vacations start to kick in "everyday" then there will be a steady supply of drops all the time. The summer is all about recent drop hunting, just way too much loose sand built up over those deeper/firmer layers of beach. This is why it's so slow right now, sort of getting the double whammy, if you will, new sand coming in and no drops to speak of.

That's a rather complicated question. We've had storms come through that actually made the hunting worse, others that created metal detecting heavens. Just depends on how the currents and swells attack the beach. We had a good blow last year that left the beach littered with weed and more sand, so it really all depends on just how those swells attack the beach. The ideal situation is when the swells attack the beach at an angle, the worst situation is often when they attack it coming straight in, unless it's a real monster of a storm. The guys who have lived here a long time can tell you some real treasure hunting stories after those monster storms.

South Beach was pretty good and my first time. No jewelry but a lot of coins. Minimal junk. Even hit a spill with over 10 coins within a few feet. A wide beach between the low and high tide points. Hit the water for few, but the current was strong.
