This guy has some really informative reviews on metal detectors.
I just bought 2 scoops- the Jobe mesh one. You cant really step on it, its OK for dry sand. But the handle angle makes it difficult to dig.
And the aluminium one, like in the vid.

If I have learnt one thing digging in the surf, its that you dont want to compromise on a decent scoop.

I saw a video of a guy in Australia using a shovel like this while detecting; so I modified a food grade polypropylene shovel to use on the beaches. Love it. It's nonmetallic and very light weight.

I have used many scoops and the best for me for wet sand or wading is the Sunspot Stealth. They come in different sizes and handle types, even fiber which is lighter. Genuine STEALTH "720"

Paul states it's alum in the video plus I own the same model scoop. They do sell a stainless tip for this particular model to keep the end from wearing down.

My bad. RTG makes aluminum scoops too, I just checked their website. When I bought mine, I was only looking at the stainless ones, the aluminum ones are on a different link.

I made all the cuts with a hack saw. The corner cuts were made in 2 parts; from half way down the cutout section to the center of the front edge, then from the top of the cutout section to the center of the first cut. That'll leave more surface area to your shovel. Then use a file to to smooth out your cuts and put an edge on the blade.
