to bad they were of sinkers
hit a beach that I used to find a lot of jewelry at years ago
but a few yrs ago I took a few friends now and then there
and they took two friends and they took two friends and so on and so on
place is pretty clean now a days - best of it is silver earing
headed to an area with bedrock showing on the bottom below some cliff
figured it was a fishing spot - but saw a few people snorkeling below the cliffs and some wading around the rocks
so thought over the years there might be a few coins or maybe even a ring or two in there
what I found were large nooks and crannies that held groups of sinkers of different shapes and sizes
one hole had 12 sinkers in it once I fanned the sand out - other pockets held 2+ each too
I want gold like everyone else
but if I cant find the precious metals and coins
and im in the water with no where else at the time to go
I'll go for the sinkers and lures (which Im surprised I did not find any there)
I still think there maybe be some goodies in there - with the lead that I found - don't think
others have been in there -(they might not have linked digging the lead if they did try in there)
water was crystal clear there and pockets were easily fannable - may go back in there
I guarantee there is at least 10 X more lead in there-(I had to give up on 5 large ones that were wedged in cracks really tight)
I need to bring something to put lead in though - I had to quit cause my pouch was overloaded
prob bring floating sifter out next time

I like finding grey matter.
At fifty cents a pound for scrap it adds up, more if you melt it down and cast your own weights/jigs.

Definitely better than finding zinc pennies.
Wheres there lead, there is often gold and platinum, which is okay too - except when you want to go fishing!

I know its not everyones cup of tea - finding sinkers that is
but it was fun hunting in 5 feet of water at low tide - clear water
and going over the rocks and swinging over areas with pockets of sand
no scooping here - drop down and fan --it was funny fanning that big pocket of weights
I fanned 2 inches off and they were sticking out in all directions - Id drop down and pluck 4-5
come up and then drop down again and grab a few more til I got them all
move about 5 feet away - nother sand filled pocket - more sinkers
wish I had video - maybe next time

There are other uses for melted down lead, I save all the lead I find.

so do I now
when I was younger - used to melt down and make musketballs
then bought sinker moulds and made new ones - some to use - some to sell
then melted bunch down and made my own dive weights (bout 120 lbs worth)
then I sold a bunch as is to fishermen in late 90s
keep it all now - got over couple hundred lbs of just sinkers
plus got a bucket of other lead scrap found
and a bunch of assorted found dive weights (at least over 50lbs)

At least you found a few coins to go with all that lead. I was at a website selling dive gear and they had a mold to pour lead in to make the diving weights like you mentioned.
