My first Spanish Silver

I don't know what it is. Maybe some of you can help me.
I would like to say that I found it from a ship wreck but I believe someone else found it first.


I went to where everyone rafts up (Redneck Yacht Club). Lots of beer tabs and junk jewelry. The Spanish Silver and the 5 pound brass ships bearing were about the best of it. The ring was stainless.




And this shell drove me nuts!!!

It probably is real, since somebody made it into a necklace. All you need is a chain and you can wear it.

What you probably have is a real Spanish real, some of the similar pendents are made from real Spanish silver but from the ingots and they use a nice coin to make a mold and make more coins but since yours is irregular shaped from age I'd say you have an authentic one. Likely from the Atocha, the Fisher Family has sold thousands of these.

Where are you located at in SWFL? I'm in Englewood.

Real nice find, I think dennco2000 had the right answer, the less then stellar coins from the Atocha were made into jewelry, the good ones were too but were more expensive thus many more worn out ones were sold...It is getting lost in time now but the Atocha was really loaded with gold and silver and big news back then.

That is a stellar find, the Atocha coins I have are fragments lowest grade, I would say yours is a 3 or 4 easy. Here is some comparison

Stellar find! Your coin is a two reale .. From the style of cross on the obverse I'm guessing Lima or Potossi mint.
Definitely looks like an Atocha coin.
The Atocha sank in 1622.
The denomination is in the legend.. I circled it. (2)
