Interesting Artifact

[Beach Papa]

I found this item at a beach last year where there is a known ship wreck. The wreck was a merchant ship and had no treasure on board. I understand the cargo was salvaged since it was so close to shore. Don't know if this item is from that wreck or not. I would not be surprised if there are other wrecks in the area as well. There was 25' of water where it sunk. However, it is now covered in sand and I have never seen any evidence of the wreck, even after a storm until I happened upon this. I hit the end of the spike with a file to expose some of the brass under the patina. You can see that it is hand forged by the folds in the metal, and the spike bent as it was driven into the wood. I had it sitting in my shop and noticed that the wood was deteriorating and crumbling as it dried out over time so I dipped it in urethane to stop the deterioration and preserve what I had. No value, but lots of thoughts go through your head when you find something like this. Happy Hunting to y'all. Beach Papa

Cool find for sure... I'm thinking that spike actually bent by the much larger planks of the ship being torn apart by the pressure of the sea and sand.
Many of the ones I have seen and found are bent.. Yours is actually twisted
