Since the hunting has been a bit slow lately, I decided to craft up a knob guard. Sorry, dont have a tutorial, it was just one of those spur of the moment builds. I used 1/4" acrylic, a dremel and a propane torch to heat the acrylic. Started with a cardboard stencil and cut the acrylic then smoothed the edges and formed into shape. Total time was about 3-4 hours. Was going to buy one of the Anderson guards but they didnt look all that sturdy (never seen one in person) and they are too expensive for no more than they are.

I could see if you hip mounted the Excal, it may get more exposed to bumping or being knocked easier that way and the guard would be good to have on your hip.

How does it secure to the machine? Is it pressure fitted - looks like only one side secures to the push pins...........

I used nylon bolt and nut pushed through instead of the factory double clips.

made myself one today. i used a dremel multimax oscillating tool to cut the access holes. next time i think ill use router so it will be smoother. this one will be ok for now. i hate the thought of dropping it or hitting it on something and cracking my control pod at the knob shaft. also made a coil immobilizer with a leftover piece. i just zip tied it for now until i decide if i like it or not. it allows for some minimal movement of the coil but not much. and if it gets too much strain on it the small piece of lexan should just break without damaging anything.

Nice! I actually like that style much more than the single sided versions. That way looks much more robust :)

Excellent job Bejamble.

I have the Anderson knob guard and it works but it also bends easily due to the thin plate metal used. So every once in a while I find myself adjusting it above the knobs. This thick acrylic looks very rugged. Over time it will discolor but who cares as long as it protect the machine. You did a great finish job on your cuts, it can take a bit of experience to get decent looking cuts from acrylic and it shows you have some experience working that material. Do you have any more of these guards available for purchase? If so call or txt me I can be found at SeattleRingHunter.com

Cheers,
Jeff Morgan
