Just a quick question.....Have any of you brought your metal detector to the Dominican Republic?? Do you know if it is permitted? Again, it goes without saying that I will be strictly on the beach in front of the hotels.
Any ideas? Any tips?
I brought mine when I went to the DR last July ('06). I stayed in Cabrera, a little town on the north coast, about an hour east of sosoua. I didn't find much, but I think that was becasue I barely got out to the beaches (there was too much diving and golf).
I checked before I went, and it was legal then. I can't remember the site, but the govt there had an official website, with a legal section to it. I sent them an email checking before I went and got a response fairly quickly.
I had a great time while there. But, if you do go, especially to the out of the way beaches, remember to be safe. Even though crime is low (where I was at least), the average income was less than $200 US per month, so a $1000 detector (my excalibur) makes an inviting target
If you have any questions, send me an email or pm me
I just got some feedback from some other sources that also say it is OK to bring one down. Thanks for the "heads-up" on the safety. I will strictly be on the hotel beach. Thanks again.
