Since moving here to St. Thomas a week ago I've be able to get out detecting twice. I plan on keeping a list on here of all my finds, not included on this list will be all the bottle caps and pull tabs, I have dug over 200 of them so far. However, I was able to dig two rings and a set of keys and some pocket change. One of the rings is stainless steel and the second ring I assume is junk due to it not being stamped. I am using an ATPRO and it seems to work quite well in the salt water and wet sand here, hopefully there are a few more rings to come!

Thanks for stopping by and HH to everyone.

There is a lot of drinking happening here, haha, I'm just patiently waiting for some intoxicated cruise ship day tripper to deposit their jewelry in the surf.

Hey BVI, that sounds like a plan. My wife and I have not made it over to BVI yet.

Don't discount unstamped rings. I was asked to look for a ring at a park and I found one. It was gold but had no marking. I called the owner, she described it and I asked her why there is no marking. She said it was purchased in her home country and its 18K, they don't mark their gold rings.

So always have it tested.

For sure test the ring. To me, the stamps are "guidance". I have found some that were marked 18K that were not (somebody got ripped off) and others that were unmarked and turned out to be gold. One indicator is the lack of tarnish. Once a low quality ring has been in the water for a little while, it stops looking like gold. Even 10kt will go black over time.

I feel your pain on the bottle tops and pull tabs. Hopefully, you can clean them out once on your favorite beach(s) and find less next time out. I actually don't mind finding them, as I tell myself that it has been a while since anybody else went through there (without discrimination) and therefore there "must" be some good stuff in-between. It is very nice that you can get out to prime beaches like that because you live there. My lakes around me are now getting frozen over.

Today was a pretty good day. Spent most of it in the water and ended the day with $3.03 in clad and a men's tungsten wedding band.

Your numbers are around what I get. 100 targets to 1 ring find. I have taken a liking to those 1970's pull tabs.
it only takes 1 drunk to deposit the 10 bud-light bottle caps.

Today's finds we pretty good. I dug $4.09 in clad, a lock, a "shopping" charm, a costume jewelry necklace. Today was all dry sand hunting.

And I was wondering, what is the best way to "un-crust" the clad coins I have found? Thanks in advance!

Good evening,

Well I am going to start posting my finds on here. Two weeks ago I posted about finding my first ever great find, it was a men's platinum band. Then last week I posted about my first ever gold find.

Wouldn't you know, not even a week later, I get my second gold band. A nice thick one at that. I'll have to get a weight on it tomorrow, but it's heavier that the first.

I will try and and continue to post my finds on this tread so long as my new honey hole keeps on producing.

Enjoy the pictures of tonight's find and all three rings (2 gold, 1 platinum) from the last two weeks.

HH

Found this really tiny 14k ring during yesterday's hunt. It is stamped 14k, but it is pretty yellow. Maybe a child's ring? The one picture is taken on my pinky.

Good morning everyone,

Went out last night for a few hours. Got a ton of pull tabs and some pocket change and a 14k ring.

If anyone has any information on the maker's mark, it would be greatly appreciated. I have looked online but can't seem to find any information on it.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck to everyone.

Vdubguy, St. Thomas, What a great place to be! I spent the better part of a year there in 1978-1979, lived in an apartment on the North Shore between Megans Bay and Hull Bay. Worked for a little bit at the Frenchmans Reef hotel before getting a job at a charter boat co in what is now called Yacht Haven. I loved it down there! We still have snow on the ground up here in New England! Enjoy!
