is it just ground mineralization or what? It's not spuratic or comes and goes. It's a solid sig

I'm not a specialist, but for sure by lowering sensitivity a bit its gone. On the CTX 3030 it is a 15.33 "very well know" signal, solid like a rock.

I thought I was just finding Sherman tanks 40 ft down and didn't have the perseverance to keep going. Tank-1.jpg

That's not a false...its a big deep target...maybe big piece of iron...where we hunt we get targets like that and they are usually crab traps or large iron...I leave them sometimes after digging deep and still not getting to the target....I always say "I hope that wasnt a 20 gram platinum"

I'll sometimes be in thigh deep water and try to get at a signal like that. It's impossible even with my TRex 9.5. When the waves are crashing into you and it covers the hole faster than you can dig it, it's pointless. I should plot it w/my gps tracker and come back at a low tide. Seriously

Jeep, come back later and the target could be 50 yards down the beach... I have lost lots of targets over the years due to rough surf....

As a beginner I have been wondering about target movement after it has been dropped. If someone drops a gold band, for instance, how far will it move in normal surf conditions?

Depends on the surf conditions. I found a ring for a couple who's son lost it in front of their hotel while in surf at Daytona, I found it at least 50 yards from where they told me their son lost it the day before as they swam in front of their hotel.

They asked if I had found a ring, I asked why, they told me the story and what the inscription was, I told if I found it I would return it...

They were able to tell me the inscription on the inside and I returned it. It was rough surf both days and he lost it in the late afternoon, I found it the next day at low tide at the waterline 50 yards from their hotel.

People think they lost something at one place when in fact they forgot they might have been somewhere else too. But things do move around with the surf as Treasure Hunter said.

Yeah, the current moves people down the beach and they don't even know it...I looked for a ring for a group of girls last summer that were sure of the depth they were in when they lost it. I looked for it for about twenty minutes and as I did the group of girls were moved away from me by the current several times. When they left the water I watched them walk back to their stuff on the beach and they ended up about 200 feet down the beach from where they had me looking. I moved down till I was in front of them and started searching. I had her ring in five minutes...Ive found rings for people several times that were not where they thought it was.

Even though I have the ctx 3030, the Excalibur is my favorite beach machine. I'm not bothered by a target I.D. screen and menus!
I know where to set the knobs to get the most from the beach or water i'm hunting in.
The more I use it the better it gets.

+1 ...I feel like you are always obliged to look at this screen to check what's the target ID...and at the end of the day you will digg so...:dontknow:

I was contacted once to locate a ring for this lady. She showed me where she lost it right in front of her towel. She said she only went out knee deep with the kids. I searched the area well and no luck. As they were getting ready to leave she showed me her ring which she earlier placed in her purse. Make ya wonder how many ghost rings you look for and never find.

Yeah, if they don't know when the ring came off, its almost impossible to make the find.
