The Sebastian Inlet State Park is the closest. It's North of Vero and right in the midst of the treasure beaches. While you're there check out the McClarty Treasure Museum at the 1715 survivors site just South of the Park. In Sebastian is the Fisher Treasure Museum also. Remember to stay out of the water with your detector, good luck and have a great time.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD YOU CAN NOT HUNT IN A FLORIDA STATE PARK...

I can't speak for all of the Parks but you can hunt the beaches (and the big Lagoon) in Sebastian River State Park with no problem. The North side of the inlet always produced only recent drops because of the sand for me but the South side is a different story.

The beach restoration has hurt some but recent erosion is setting it up to be very workable when a decent storm comes through this summer. Personally I like working a little further to the South but you work the beaches with the best cuts and I've worked the park beaches many times.
