I may have found my best find to date, but might need help with an ID, the ring was found diving cape point south Africa, baffles bay... The hallmark seems to be close to the one in the link putting it at the 17th century... If you able to help me Id the marks, stone and style that will help alot

Jason is a good friend of mine and we have spent a lot of time in the water hunting. He may not have been detecting for as long as some guys around - but that doesn't take away his passion for our hobby. He is the sort of guy who doesn't think twice about dropping everything and heading off to find someones lost ring. He is one of the guys who will be neck deep in the water with you at midnight with a 15 foot swell running and a rip that so strong that getting your scoop to your foot takes all your strength. He is with you when there is a 30 mph wind and snow on our mountains. He is that guy that spends two days diving in a harbour with 0 visibility - on his own - to get a ring back to someone. And I think he is one of the few people I know who would jump out of his car when the car in front of him is getting robbed, grab his scoop and take on the attacker to assist a stranger - hand her back her bag and send the attacker off to hospital with a broken leg.

A lot of guys in this hobby brag, lie and misrepresent their finds. He is not that type of guy. Take a second and research that assayers hallmark and make you your own mind as to the age of the stamp. He is still researching into the second hallmark, which should identify the Jeweler and town the ring came from. It would be cool to get some feedback or assistance on identifying the hallmark.

I think what I am trying to say is that he shared a find that is special to him, let's not label him for a really cool find and taking the time to share it with others.

Happy Hunting
Alan

Thanks Alan, I have got some info on the ring and I am still busy researching myself, The info I have got is that there was only one wreck at the bay I found it but the date didn't match with the hallmark, there is a second legend of a wreck right where I found the ring and that legend of the wreck is dated right at the same date as the ring, I'm still trying to dig up more info on this legend but it has been extremely have as there are only two write ups about it

That is a beautiful buttery colored gold. Reminds me of Tumbaga, where the copper is removed and gold polished to make a nice surface...

Definitely a keeper!
