Just like a good detector, you don't want to go skimp on your scoop either. A good quality scoop will cost you between 100 to 175 dollars. You may be able to pick up one second hand. You will work yourself to death with a cheap scoop if it lasts long enough for you to do so.

Big strong basket, light, strong handle. Stainless steel or aluminum basket. Stainless, aluminum, or fiberglass handle.

You may have to weigh how often you hunt and where also. If you are hunting the panhandle where the bottom is soft and sandy, you may get by with a lesser scoop. If you get into shells or mucky bottom, you need a strong scoop.
