Finally I can say I got my first gold ring of the year. I have been watching a lot of Miami beach videos lately since I am going there next week for a few days. I especially have been watching a lot of videos with water detecting using the Garrett AT Pro. I see people in Miami having good results in the water the the AT Pro. I have had mine in the closest for more than a year and been using my two Excal's. I have the Excal 1000 with a 10x12 SEF coil and the Excal II with a stock 10 inch coil. Here is my question concerning the coils. Yesterday I worked the same beach for four hours using my Excal with the 10 inch coil. I hunt the the P/P mode with all the correct settings. Today I take my AT Pro and go over the same areas and find a 18K ring in 10 minutes.

Would you say that the stock coil of the AT Pro 8.5x 11 is better than the stock 10 inch coil on my Excal? I guess it could have just been pure luck that i found it with the AT Pro but I would like to know your thoughts on the two coils.

Congrats slider!!! Beautiful piece. To answer your question, Excal with stock coil is a better saltwater choice. That being said, my motto has always been, if I'm meant to find it, my coil will sweep over it. Right place, Right Time...

Nice piece! Looks like it's got a Lil weight to I!

I'd think the excalibur would run circles around the atpro in saltwater if both machines were set up correctly in a head to head comparison.

Weight was 5.17 grams

Brother that is a Great looking 18k, very rare for the US.. Could have been dropped in between the hunts times or ... AT Pro was at the right place at the right time.

On second thought Garry, and I'm no expert, the coil that finds the 18K is better...lol GREAT finds dude!

I dont rate my At as a salt water machine on our beaches in SA too much black sand and mineralization,I stick to a PI for salt water

I'm still using my Excals but the AT Pro works pretty good here in Florida once you get the settings correct.

You can NEVER clean a beach... That ring might of been a fresh drop (unlikely). You might have simply missed a sweep. I've had times where I thought I had SOLID grid lines.. Pulled a lot of stuff. Then for the heck of it turned 90 degrees and swept it East to West instead of North to South and found several targets. To many variables..... Then add a day or two to the mix with fresh tides rolling in/out. Then Memorial Weekend people...
I say take your Excal(s).

Your probably right! I came to Miami Beach to try my luck! Lots of targets before the storm but to rough to get wet! Tomorrow is another day. HH
