Heading down to SW Fla for a week on New Years. I read about the re-nourishing going on and was curious if sand is being replaced in the water or is it just added to the dry sand areas of beach? I understand it's being trucked in this time versus being pumped in from an off shore barge. Also curious how far north of Marco the plans call for. Dying to get back in the water and away from the ice and snow here in NH! Thanks in advance & Happy Hunting

Trucks will haul from sun up to sun down, Monday through Saturday.
It will take about 6,000 one-way trips to get the sand from Stewart Mine in Immokalee to the beaches. Trucks will not haul during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. This project will put enough sand on Vanderbilt, Park Shore and Pelican Bay beaches to compensate for the next three years of expected erosion, according to county estimates.

I hunted Naples, Estero and Ft Myers beaches during Thanksgiving week and it was bleak. Red Tide and new sand to the south - bottle caps and green slime to the north. GL and SH...

Today's red tide report doesn't look too bad. Sarasota south looks ok.
