I was just there last week, they are dumping a LOT of sand on the entire area from the inlet south to ?.............we'll never find anything again, and I'm sure that's the way they want it.

The question is....where are they getting the sand to dump? I wouldn't think it was from a source too terribly far away due to transportation costs. Maybe sand from some other area of the treasure coast?

Sure they will, one season and all that sand will be gone. Nature does things for a reason. Waste of money.

Sand mine

They call it a sand mine just NW of the Sebastian bridge. When you're on top of the bridge look to the NW and you will see the crane and mountain of sand. From the looks of it spread at Bonsteel park it is a blond colored sugar sand, very fluffy.

It doesn't seem to compact very well and on the Gulf coast it might stay in place but with our wave action I don't think it will last very long. If they ever do any dredging of the inlet they might add that to the mountain but the sand at Bonsteel looks like virgin clean.

The ranger at McClarty museum told me this.
