Decided to hit the road and it took me to St. Pete Beach, Fl. WOW, what a beautiful beach with clear water, sand and sun. Boy was metal detecting the surf fun. The water was so clear that I didn't have to use my toe as a base marker for my sand scoop; I could see where I wanted to place the scoop on the bottom. The surf was flat and it was in the high 70s. Parking was 2.50/hr.
My initial metal detecting path, as I attack the water, is to walk straight out until it hits me in the chin. This gives me an idea of the trough and sand bars, if any. Today there was basically no trough (because of no waves), and the seabed made a more or less gradual decline deeper. I decided to work a strip where I saw a lot of sea shells, figuring that anything sinking to the center of the earth will have a more difficult time going through sea shells than sand. Some of my scoop contents was more than 50% shells.

Here are my recoveries for the day but the pic doesn't include the fact that I had a blast. Heck, some old lady, about my age, even hit on me as I was walked quickly back to the car. As to the finds, the double ring is junk.

The copper band has crimping around the edge and if you squint and have a few drinks or smokes (only in states where it is legal) you'd swear it says something. I'll even entertain the idea that it is actually a washer.

The best ring is possibly Mexican silver, unmarked, with a small, 1/4 ct black stone. Cute.

I ended up finding the small simple copper band twice...with a pocket drop; let me explain.
I searched about a mile down the beach in about 4 hours and was walking quickly back to the car as I swung my detector on the hard wet sand. That is when the drunk old babe hit on me. Time was ticking on the meter and as I ran down the beach I was sweating in my wetsuit; so, I went out about 2-3 ft and just laid down in the cool water and sank to the bottom. As I got up my detector went off and the signal was good. Before I knew it I had stumbled upon a pocket drop that included 3 nickels, a cent, a quarter and, I couldn't believe it, another ring like the one I had found earlier in the day. Only when I got home and emptied out my coin/junk pouch did I realize - it was MY pocket drop. When I laid in the water I spilled some of the contents of my junk/coin pouch and I happened to detect it with my detector.
So I found one ring twice. Not sure if I should say I found 3 rings or 4? Guess I'll get a new coin pouch.

Neat finds! No Red Tide??

It is in the upper area of reported detection on the west coast of Florida but no problems and many people in water.
