So we had a major storm sweep thru and I was determined to get out there early this year and to my surprise my research paid off. There is a long history of Asbury Park being the number one ocean spot since the 1800s...I have seen old photos of hundreds of people enjoying the ocean and beach. Throwing their jewelry and coins in the air as the enjoy the best of New Jersey summer has to offer. Well it was still slightly sanded in but when I saw the news reports of the waves crashing the beach my adrenaline was firing high to get out there...the average temperature for this time of year is in the 30s so I was glad it peaked out at a mild 50 degrees. It started out as a CLAD fest with one coin after another. I was using my AT Pro which we all think is a land machine but she performed well and we all know I am earning my way to an Excalibur 2. I put in a good day of $7.86 in CLAD. That's a lot of digging. No silver. No jewelry. But the Metal Detecting Gods smiled down on me with a 1888 V-nickel and this beautiful 1858 Flying Eagle cent. WOW!!! What a treasure. I mainly go to the beach in search of gold jewelry but to find a Flying Eagle cent was better than finding Black Beard's treasure...well maybe not but you get the idea. I tried to video my hunt but my Go Pro had fishing videos on it and I forgot to charge the battery so maybe next time...see you out there and I am looking forward to the next big storm and what I will find.
