I was kinda having a rough day Detecting at the bay a few coins and mostly trash which is expected and besides I'm doing my part to remove the junk for the beach. So as the day goes by I'm swing my detector near the sidewalk when I get a target. I dug it out of the sand and at first I thought it was a space pod. I didn't think much of it and tossed it in my pouch.

Then a few yards away I get another target, so I dig about half an inch down and knew that I have something in the scoop after swinging my coil over the hole. The signal kept bouncing around in the teens when ever the coil went over the target. After a few seconds of clearing the scoop a ring with a stone stared at me. So I did my gold dance in my mind because I didn't want to attract to much attention. When I got home I looked at the ring a little closer and I was confused for a moment with the markings inside of the ring. At first I thought it was plated when the markings read "14kt-p-espo". I looked at the stone and made a quick judgment that the stone was a CZ, so naturally I thought the ring was plated with 14KT gold. Which in my mind it's fake, or is it?

So I was at another beach the next day when I ran into another detectorist who also happens to have a YouTube channel. I showed him the ring and he knew right away that it was real gold and the stone was a CZ. He said that the "P" means plumb and that it contains between 14KT-18KT real gold and that it's about a gram. He also said that the remaining letters are the designers initials and that the ring itself is about 20 yrs old. Okay it's the real deal, so is this my first gold ring? I'm gonna say "yes".

The space pod ended up being a silver plated pendant. I thought it was a little thin to be a space pod, but when I'm Detecting I normally don't look at my finds or show what it is that I found unless it's a pull tab or bottle cap. The pendant has the words "Saint John of God-Pray for me" on one side and a figure of said person on the other side. So I imagine that this is a Catholic item or somewhere close to that religion. The pendant was really caked and with a vinegar bath which by the way was my first time trying to clean something that I found on the beach, it turned out really nice. I think the next time I'll use tooth picks instead of a paper clip.

Nice ring! I'd sure use a diamond tester on it though, rather than just guess it's a CZ.
