Well, when you think you've just scooped out your first gold in 30 years!

Steve & I went water hunting day before yesterday. The signals were very rare, but then I found this "gold" necklace - weighs in at 12 grams.

And then we look at the markings.

So, it turns out it is sterling with a gold wash.

Still a great find for so early in the season here.

Thanks! However, I've seen some of the treasures you've found!

Unless I get in a really difficult situation I'll never sell anything I find, it will all go to my kids. There's no way I'm in this hobby for profit - it's for the pure delight of those rare discoveries :)

You gonna wear it?:dontknow:

Nope! Years ago I used to wear gold chains. Then my butthole brother in law, who didn't like me and the feeling was quite mutual (I'd loaned him $2,500 a decade before that and he'd never paid me back) - well he referred to me as wearing "pimp jewelry". I invited him outside, and all the brothers & sisters & his Mom, shut him down. He paid me back the $2500.....

So, I don't wear jewelry.

There's a thread bashing jewelry as marked "Italy" as beau coup fakes.

The back side of the tag link posted here is "Italy".

So, I tested the chain. That "tag link" tested positive for silver using the 18K gold solution. Then I scratched a link on the stone and it tested positive for 14K. Thus my assumption as to the validity of the find makes me feel one heck of a lot better :)
