Hi All,I got out to a local beach,on tuesday, and found my 1st gold of the year.I hunted the wet and dry sand for 5 hours, and finally found a little 10k gold band.It was in the dry sand and gave of a very low sound. The ring weighs between .6 and .7 grams. It is a size 7. It nothing great, but at least is gold.I only found 3 gold rings last year.I will go back again soon.

Great way to start the New Year. Found a small 1.22g band with a small row of diamonds last year on dry sand and rang up 12:02 on the CTX 3030. Problem was (and still is) juice metallic seals also ring in at 12:02 and I had to dig up about 100 of the bottle tops to recover the small gold and diamond band. And still glad to dig every 12:02 I come across...

Congrats. I still haven't found gold yet since I started, other than a gold PLATED bracelet.

I went to a beach in RI yesterday with a couple people, we detected for about 4 hours and found nothing but pull tabs and a broken knife.

Congrats. I still haven't found gold yet since I started, other than a gold PLATED bracelet.

I went to a beach in RI yesterday with a couple people, we detected for about 4 hours and found nothing but pull tabs and a broken knife.

I have sooo many of those days...but I don't mention them; only the ones where I hit BIG. And there is part of the problem - Basically, selection bias where ya hear about everyone else and all of the great finds and yet you (I) find only bottle caps (btw my record for bottle caps in 1 scoop is 13). You never hear and people seldom mention the "off" days and always mention the "on" days and great finds. Thus the reason for this metric: On Florida beaches I average 10 coins/hr on the west coast and 6 coins/hr on east coast. I find a silver (.925) piece every 100 coins and some type of gold piece every 300 or so coins (over 7yrs). So, I work 30 hrs actually detecting, often in the water at significant risks, to find some gold piece. But the enjoyment isn't in the gold but in the experience of metal detecting...if you enjoy it because of gold you'll enjoy it once every 30 hrs...if you enjoy MDing for the experience you'll enjoy it for the 30 hrs...
