Nice! I live just an hour north. I don't know anything about either of those machines. Are they single or multifrequency? If they are single, you can work the dry sand but they will start going nuts on the wetsand. Have fun. Its hot already even in the early mornings and nights to bring water and sunscreen!

MXT works fine on the beach. I use it all the time

I would go with the dual frequency DFX for wet sand and use the 300 coil for coverage. The smaller 9.5 coil may be best for entrance areas as these are frequently target rich zones. There was massive beach replenishment there last year, you are basically looking for fresh drops

The following are the settings that I have used on a DFX/bigfoot coil setup at Myrtle Beach if I could not get a ground balance (if you get a reliable ground balance, just turn the autotrac on):

volume 53
threshold 30
tone 231
audio disc 0n
silent search off
mixed mode off ( "on" if you can stand the noise)
AC 77
DC 50
view angle 25
ratchet pinpoint on
SAT 10
tone ID on
VCO on
modulation off
auto trac off
track view off
auto trac speed 8
autotrac offset +1
trac inhib on
Course GEB 126
fine GEB 255
accept +95
reject +94
accept +93 to -80
reject -81 to -95
learn accept off
learn reject off
recovery speed 30
bottlecap reject 1
hot rock reject 3
sweep speed 1
ground filtering 3
visual disc off
icons on
VDI 95
dc phase on
graph averaging on
graph accumulate on
fade rate 5
preamp gain 3
2 freq best data off
2 freq coorelate on
VDI normalize on
1 freq 3 off
1 freq 15 off

You will of course adjust volume, AC, DC for your preferences/beach conditions. Mixed mode "on" definitely adds depth, using 2 freq correlate is best to take out corroded iron.

Good luck!

Charles
