"Everything" is done on a small, but comfortable, scale. It's a lot like backpacking with the exception of the cooler and a few other additional amenities. The downsized 4x4 V6 SUV that I drive gets about 28/30mpg and it has just enough room for all of my gear. So I'm always camping somewhere near to my targeted detecting areas. It's not for everyone, of course, but it suits me just fine and I usually have most of the place all to myself through the week, especially once the kids are in school.
